Imagineering Ariel’s Hair at Disney California Adventure Park - Video

The new Little Mermaid attraction is getting closer to opening!  It's amazing what the Imagineers can do!  Read all about it below from the Disney Parks Blog:

"We are just a couple of months away from the official opening of The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure park. Walt Disney Imagineers are working hard to make sure you feel transported into Ariel’s world through every detail – the water, the fish, the hair….yes, the hair! Ariel’s hair posed a particular challenge for Imagineers, one they hadn’t encountered before – how do you make hair that’s technically out of the water look like it’s floating underwater? Take a look at their progress."

Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure - Inside Look

Here is some amazing info thanks to Disneyland News Today!

"We were able to get our hands on several very detailed blueprints that overlook the Buena Vista Street expansion that is currently under construction at Disney California Adventure. Construction has already begun on the first half of Buena Vista Street (Carthay Circle) and is slated to be completed in 2012."

Starting off at the park entrance, the new turnstiles will be themed to the Pan-Pacific Theater similar to what is at Disney’s Hollywood Studios over in Orlando. The path on the left is a mystery to me as nothing was there before so my assumption is that it will be used by Cast Members. The esplanade is unchanged.

Moving on right past the turnstiles into the North Plaza. The first location on the left you will pass is Oswald’s Filling Station which we are assuming is DCA’s version of the Newsstand. Pass that is the existing guest relations building. On the opposite side are the Existing lockers and restrooms which will be re-themed. In front of the lockers is the first Red Car stop you will pass. Julius Katz and Sons will be a merchandise location and will located in the space formally used for Stroller Rental. Los Feliz Five and Dime, Big Top Toys, and Elias and Company Department Store are going to take over as the flagship store(s) of the park replacing Greeting From California.

Here is a look at what the above blueprint will look like once completed.

This next image is the street between the North Plaza and Carthay Circle. Atwater Art Supply we believe will be the equivalent of Disneyana.

Next you will enter Carthay Circle. First location you will pass is the Fiddler, Fifer, and Practical cafe which will be a coffee shop and will replace Baker’s Field Bakery. Clarabelle’s Ice Cream Parlor will replace Bur-r-rBank Ice Cream. Their are a lot of details in this overhead so we will take it one a time.

First interesting note is that subwoofers are being placed underground in false “Storm Drains” around the plaza for parades.

Pictured above is labeled simply “Pump House.” At this time, we are assuming it will be a merchandise or dining location. It will be placed between the entrance of Condor Flats and the performance corridor. We’ve been told that the “pump house” will house the actual “pump” for the fountain in the center of the plaza.

Above is the new icon of the new park. The Carthay Circle theater is said to be several things. Tom Staggs mentioned it would be a high-end dining location. It is also rumored to be a exclusive club similar to Club 33. Another rumor that it will be an actual theater. Now what I have circled in the bottom of the picture seems to look like a bank of exit doors for a theater. Nothing is set in stone yet so these are sure to change.

Here is the Carthay Circle Theater. At it’s tallest point it will be 89 feet tall, Sleeping Beauty Castle only 77 feet tall. From this picture, we can see that their will be two levels in this complex and balcony’s overlooking the street.

Here is a overhead of the center of the circle. The most interesting thing here is the location of the partners statue circled in the top of the picture.

Here is the concept art for the new partners statue that Disney released back in 2007 what the expansion was announced. It was said it was to suppose to represent an earlier Walt, when he first arrived in California with his newest creation, Mickey Mouse.

Here is the blueprint for the statue.

Before we move on, one interesting note. Circled above is “Special Effects Lighting.” On the right are sections of concrete with glass squares in them. Yes, it seems that at night, the streets of Buena Vista Street will come to life with amazing light and color. Can’t wait to see this…

The next blueprints are of the already completed trolley tracks and improvements down the Backlot.

Above is the Animation Building and The Hyperion

Tower of Terror

Blueprint of the Red Car maintenance barn.

Here are all the blueprints pieced together.

The Hoisting of King Triton at The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure - Video

Here's a quick peek of the King Triton statue placement.

From the Disney Parks Blog:

"King Triton – who is Ariel’s father – has taken his place on top of the main archway in front of the upcoming attraction, The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, in Disney California Adventure park. The statue itself is 76 inches tall. You’ll probably recognize him. He’s the same Triton who once appeared near the Little Mermaid meet-and-greet area in Fantasyland. He was moved when that space became Pixie Hollow. Walt Disney Imagineers knew the Little Mermaid attraction was the perfect new place for him. He even inspired the design of Ariel’s sisters as classic bas-relief figures on the archway’s face. They will complement King Triton on the arch."

Discounts for Military Personnel at Disney Parks!

Important info below from the OC Register worth passing on!

"Military personnel can get discounts of more than half off on Disneyland Resort park passes under a new promotion.

Three-day “park hopper” passes cost $99 each under the deal. At the door, three-day passes are usually $206 each for adults. Park hoppers allow visitors to go to both Disneyland Resort parks — Disneyland and Disney California Adventure — on the same day.

The deal is valid for active and retired military personnel, including the U.S. Coast Guard, National Guard and reservists. Members of the military or their spouses can buy up to six passes.

The passes are for sale at U.S. military sales outlets, but not at the parks.

Walt Disney World also has a similar promotion: Four-day park hopper tickets starting at $138 each.

The promotion began this week and runs through Sept. 28, 2011. There are some blackout days when the passes can’t be used.

Disney regularly offers discounts to military personnel, but the prices were set by the bases and were usually higher. Read a previous post about Disney military discounts.

The new offer is part of Disney’s new campaign based on creating memories, called “Let the Memories Begin.” See a previous story about the Disney memories campaign.

Find more information about the Disney military discounts on the Disney Parks blog HERE.

Halloween Time Returns to Disneyland Resort Sep. 17 - Video

As posted by the Disney Park Blog:

"As summer winds down and kids head back to school, it won’t be long before they start thinking about trick-or-treating, Halloween parties and costumes. The Halloween Time celebration kicks off at Disneyland Resort September 17, with more tricks, treats and family fun.

If you’re not quite sure how to celebrate this year, there are two great ways to join in the fun.

Halloween Time: The spooky fun runs from September 17 to October 31. Lots of fun surprises and extras await you and your family with a regularly priced theme park ticket. Highlights include Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, Haunted Mansion Holiday, Meet-and-Greet opportunities with Characters and Disney Villains, a Halloween Roundup and lots of Halloween décor throughout the Resort. Check Disneyland.com for details and ticket prices.

Mickey’s Halloween Party: Big news this year! The trick-or-treat party at Disney California Adventure park has moved to Disneyland park and is now called Mickey’s Halloween Party. Along with the move comes some big advantages. This special-ticket soiree, Tuesdays and Fridays in October, as well as Halloween night (Sunday, October 31), brings to life all of the tricks and treats of the season. As with every special-ticket event, Mickey’s Halloween Party offers exclusive opportunities for ghouls and goblins of every age. Highlights include exclusive access to the Halloween Screams fireworks show, access to nearly all the attractions at Disneyland park, more tricks and treats, and early access to Disneyland park.

Exclusive Access to Halloween Screams – If you loved this fireworks spectacular last year, the show will be exclusive to guests who purchase tickets to Mickey’s Halloween Party. Last year, guests told us Main Street, U.S.A. was so filled with fans that they couldn’t fully experience the after-dark party in the sky. So, this year, you can catch every snap, crackle and pop of Halloween Screams with more wiggle room during Mickey’s Halloween Party! Check out video of Halloween Screams below.

More Tricks and Treats – Jump into your costume and head to the greatest Halloween neighborhood on Earth. Disneyland plays host to Mickey’s Halloween Party and offers more treats, more fun and more excitement, Tuesdays, Fridays and Halloween night during Halloween Time at Disneyland Resort.

Early Access to Disneyland Park – If exclusive viewing of Halloween Screams and more treats aren’t enough, how about another bonus to add to your revelry? Mickey’s Halloween Party officially kicks off at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, and 7 p.m. on Fridays and Halloween night. If you’re going to the party, you’ll get early access to Disneyland. Tuesday night party-goers can enter the park at 3 p.m., while Friday and Halloween night guests will be greeted at the gate starting at 4 p.m.

Tickets for Mickey’s Halloween Party are now available and can be purchased at Disneyland.com. Here’s an insider’s tip: if you purchase tickets in advance, you’ll get a great discount."

Buy your passes before Thursday-Disneyland raising prices!

Important info from Sarah Tully direct from the OC Register Disney Blog:

Disneyland Resort is raising prices for park tickets, annual passes and parking effective Thursday.

Visitors will pay $76 to visit a single Disneyland Resort park — either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure — for one day. That is $4 more than the current price.

Disneyland last raised single-day ticket prices a year ago, but the company has already hiked annual pass and parking fees once in the past year. In January, Disney hiked the cost for annual passes. Parking prices went up in October.

Disneyland increased prices for a one-day, one-park ticket by $3 in August 2009. Starting Thursday, visitors will pay $10 more than they did three years ago and $35 more than a decade ago, when there was only the Disneyland park. California Adventure opened in 2001.

This year’s $4 hike is on par with annual changes over the past decade: Disney has boosted prices between $2 and $7 annually over that time. See the history of Disneyland ticket prices on the OC Wiki.

“We continuously monitor the marketplace to ensure pricing that reflects a strong entertainment value,” said Suzi Brown, a Disneyland Resort spokeswoman, in a prepared statement. “When you compare a Disney park to a concert or professional sporting event, we offer a great value and a full day of world-class entertainment.”

If visitors want to avoid the price hike, they can buy passes before Thursday. Tickets purchased now are valid until Jan. 3, Brown said. Buy Disneyland tickets online. Annual passes can be renewed up to 30 days in advance at the current price.

This Thursday’s annual pass hikes range from $15 to $30. But Disney already increased the prices for annual passes in January, meaning holders will pay between $30 and $45 more since the hikes in August 2009.

Some Disney fan sites have speculated that the company is hiking prices to decrease the number of passholders, who may cause crowding in the parks. However, Disney also has made it easier for visitors to pay for passes with monthly payment plans.

Disney has four types of annual passes. A visitor can go to either park for a varying number of days, depending on the level of the pass. Find the blackout dates on Disneyland’s website.

Visitors will also pay $1 more to park in Disney lots: $15 per car. In October, Disney hiked parking fees between $2 or $3. Parking is free for three hours for Downtown Disney, but Disney posts signs advising theme-park visitors to take their cars elsewhere.

Since the economy began souring, Disney parks have offered discounts, especially for Southern California residents. This summer, for example, local residents can pay $108 for three separate visits to Disney parks. See a story about the Disneyland summer deal.

Here are the new prices:

One-day passes:

One-day, one-park ticket: $76, up from $72.

One-day park hopper: $101, up from $97.

(Visitor can attend Disneyland and Disney California Adventure)

See a story about Disneyland price increases in 2009.

Parking:

Day parking: $15, up from $14

Annual Passport parking: $99, up from $79.

See an October 2009 story about parking increases at Disneyland.

Annual passes:

Southern California Select Annual Passports: $184, a $15 increase.

Southern California Annual Passports: $239, a $20 increase.

Deluxe Annual Passports: $329, a $30 increase.

Premium Annual Passports:  $459, a $20 increase.

See a previous story about Disneyland annual pass increases in January.

Disney ride opens early with new Silly Symphony Theme

Visitors are getting an early chance to ride a revamped swing attraction with a Mickey Mouse theme at Disney’s California Adventure.

The Silly Symphony Swings had a “soft opening” on Friday — two weeks before the official grand opening of the re-themed ride. A guest relations official said he was unsure if the ride would be open again Saturday.

Disney redid the swing ride as part of the $1 billion expansion and makeover of California Adventure.

The previous attraction, the Orange Stinger, also featured swings, but they were enclosed in a large, orange spiral casing. See a previous story about the Orange Stinger.

The new ride allows visitors to swing in the open air with a Mickey Mouse on top. The theme is based on the the first color Mickey Mouse cartoon, “The Band Concert,” from 1935.

On Friday, LaughingPlace.com posted a photo of Silly Symphony Swings and Twitter users wrote about the experience.

Silly Symphony Swings officially opens June 11 — the same day as the formal summer season begins and the World of Color light-and-water show debut.

The ride isn’t the only Disneyland Resort feature to return early for the summer: The Fantasmic! show and summer fireworks, called Magical, also came back Friday.

Photo shows the almost-finished Silly Symphony Swings on May 20. Photo is by Sarah Tully, Orange County Register.

Love the idea of the new Mickey theme! Much more "Disney".

Disney Report: ‘Little Mermaid’ ride goes up

Around Disney’s Trip Report takes a look at what’s new at the Disneyland Resort. This week’s trip report highlights the latest construction on the  upcoming “Little Mermaid” dark ride, a piece of the Red Car trolleys revealed and more. Click on the photos for larger images.

Voyage of the Little Mermaid

Vertical construction has begun on “The Little Mermaid”-themed dark ride, titled Voyage of the Little Mermaid, in Disney’s California Adventure. The immersive attraction will take guests under the sea and through scenes and songs from the film. CLICK HERE to watch a video by Around Disney blogger Mark Eades that previews the new attraction.

The Little Mermaid, below, is scheduled to open in 2011.

Red Trolley Cars

A portion of the construction walls in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot that was blocking off the construction of the Red Trolley Cars, below, has been taken down, revealing a track bordered by brick in California Adventure.

Reminiscent of the Pacific Electric Red Car that once ran throughout Los Angeles County, the trolley aims to embrace Walt Disney’s love of trains.  The trolley will take guests from the park’s main entrance to Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

Now that the construction walls have been removed, Award Wieners, the quick service hot dog restaurant, is now back open.

Blue Sky Cellar

The Blue Sky Cellar has been slightly updated with the addition of a new case, highlighting the expansion progress. The cellar is a place for visitors to see the details of the ongoing Disney’s California Adventure expansion. A collection of photographs labeled with notecards showcases the construction process.

The Blue Sky Cellar will close later this spring to more extensively update the displays.

Food and Wine Festival

The Food and Wine Festival, above, started this weekend at Disney’s California Adventure and runs until May 31.

The festival features celebrity chefs, such as Guy Fieri of the Food Network, making appearances, along with a chance for children to learn how to cook in the Junior Chef presentations on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

CLICK HERE to read more about the festival and to watch a video featuring the Register’s Fast Food Maven, Nancy Luna.

Downtown Disney

Over at Downtown Disney, Ridemakerz, a store where shoppers can customize toy cars, is rebuilding its location and taking over the space of the store next door. Sanuk, a temporary shoe store, closed down.

The new building is expected to open later this year.

Jamba Juice also is briefly closed for a refurbishment.

World of Color testing - Great Pics from Orange County Register!

Around Disney’s Trip Report takes a look at what’s new at the Disneyland Resort. This week’s trip report highlights World of Color testing, Paradise Pier’s new spot on a Disney pin and more. Click on the photos for larger images.
World of Color
Paradise Bay is busy at night as employees test the lights and fountains to be used in the World of Color in Disney’s California Adventure. The show is set to feature images of Disney cartoons projected on a 19,000-square-foot water screen and fountains that squirt up to 200 feet.
An opening date for the show will be announced later this spring.

Paradise Pier

Beside the glowing lights around Paradise Bay, the recently built lighthouse statue in Paradise Park also lights up at night.

A control booth can be seen under the pier.

Lanterns have been placed under the trellises in Paradise Park.

The shrubbery and trees in Paradise Park are growing in, providing the park with some much-needed shade. Other Disney blogs suggest that fountains are placed within the flowerbeds as part of the water play area.

Work is also going on during the day in Paradise Park.

The structure of the Golden Zephyr is out from behind tarps, but the ride is still closed for refurbishment.

Now that spring break season is in full swing, the parks are crowded. Make use of the recently opened walkway between the Tower of Terror and A Bug’s Land.
Rivers of America and more

The Rivers of America is also still drained for refurbishment. But visitors can get glimpses of the empty bed.

All the attractions on the river, including the Sailing Ship Columbia, Mark Twain Riverboat, and Tom Sawyer Island are closed during the refurb.

Sanuk, a top-selling shoe store in Downtown Disney, closed last Sunday so that its neighbor Ridemakerz could expand. The owners want to re-open the shoe store in another Downtown Disney location, but a spot has yet to be found. The shoe store opened in the temporary location for the holiday season.

Dino Jack is now gone from his sunglass selling spot on Paradise Pier, but now park guests can own a piece of him. This pin debuted at the resort last week and features an actual piece of the building that once was Dino Jack’s Sunglass shack.
It sells for $15.95 plus tax.

Last chance to see Disney’s Electrical Parade at DCA

March 18th, 2010, 8:28 am · posted by Sarah Tully

Disney’s Electrical Parade will begin its last run in Disney’s California Adventure starting this weekend.

After spring break, Disney plans to ship the light-covered floats and costumes to Walt Disney World in Florida, where the parade will appear this summer.

“We are hopeful that we will get it back eventually, but they have it for the summer at least,” said Denny Newell, senior show director at the Disneyland Resort.
Newell said Disney decided to relocate the parade partly because the new World of Color, a water and light show, is set to debut in California Adventure this summer. The parade route would have been shortened because of the location of the new show and audience area.

California Adventure in Anaheim has hosted the parade since 2001, usually during holidays, summer and spring breaks. The spectacle debuted in 1972 in Disneyland as the Main Street Electrical Parade, becoming the most-popular park parade until it ended in 1996. Then, the parade moved to Florida for five years.

The remaining dates for the California parade are: Friday through April 11 and April 16 to 18. The parade will begin at 9 p.m. nightly.

Disney Trip Report: Rivers, Paradise Pier additions - Around Disney

Around Disney's Trip Report takes a look at what's new at the Disneyland Resort. This week's trip report highlights a new bridge in Frontierland, the drained river in Disneyland, the continuing progress on California Adventure's $1 billion expansion project and more. Click on the photos for larger images.

The bridge connecting Disneyland's "Hub" to Frontierland has reopened with a new design.

As the Rivers of America is still drained, so are a few of the other waterways in the park, including this one near the Carnation Plaza Gardens.

A view from the top of Tarzan's Treehouse in Adventureland shows the drained Rivers of America.

Disneyland's Rivers of America, the river that winds around Tom Sawyer's Island and hosts the Mark Twain Riverboat, was emptied for refurbishment.

The renovation will be the first time the river was last drained in 2003 and it will be finished my May. All the river attractions are closed, but will reopen again when the refurbishment is complete.

Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen from "The Princess and the Frog" are no longer meeting guests at the New Orleans' Court des Anges. Instead, Princess Tiana can be found at the Princess Fantasy Faire Meet and Greet in Fantasyland. The Court des Anges is currently vacant.

Photos show the progress on California Adventure's $1 billion expansion project. This building is going to be a part of a Little Mermaid themed attraction. CLICK HERE to see a video previewing the new attraction.

In Paradise Park, a new boardwalk has been put into place.

The Golden Zephyr attraction is closed for refurbishment.

Construction crews work on building trellises that will provide shade for guests during the day.

Silly Symphony Swings is closer to it's spring debut. Silly Symphony Swings is a restyling of the former Orange Stinger attraction, which suspends guests in swings that twirl around in circles.

Lighting and speakers have also been placed along the walkways in Paradise Pier.
